Your initial view of the city will captivate you as you come down the hill toward the lake. The downtown area is level with the lake and adjacent to the marina. Feel free to visit the many specialty shops, which include antique and craft stores. Try any of the great restaurants – the cuisine ranges from gourmet to sandwiches, but casual attire is welcome at all times. There is a microbrewery in town that offers tours; its products are available at many of the local establishments.

You can play in Port Washington too! The Port Washington charter fishing fleet is one of the largest on the Great Lakes. Try your own luck with a fishing pole, or play golf at Squires Golf Course, which overlooks the lake on the north side of the city. If swimming is your preferred summer activity, there is a natural beach just north of the marina or a highly acclaimed waterpark just west of downtown. The Ozaukee Interurban Trail is a paved county-wide bike trail that winds through Port Washington. There is even a place to rent bicycles right off the trail. Visit the last covered bridge in the state, or see where flag day was born.
